MEET SAMUEL LEVITZ:
In order to properly tell my tale, I’d like to paint a picture for you…
I remember it so well, I was living in Santa Barbara, California at the time. Not even graduated from the university there yet, and I was working for an export company who did most of their business in Turkey, yes, Turkey.
Don’t Let This Happen To YOU!
On my first business trip there, I had just gotten off the plane and was herded onto a crowded, stinky bus, full of non-English speakers. I took a seat near the front of the bus, crammed against the window which was fogged by the chill in the air.
As the doors of the bus closed, I heard something, the sound of someone near the back speaking English! I wretched my head around to see, and it was two 60-something year ancient men, one sitting in front of the other.
The man behind said “Hey, where are you from?” And the man turned to him and said “Colorado.”
The Moment That Changed My Life
There was a dramatic pause, then I heard the man who questioned the question sigh this HEAVY sigh. I turned around to see that man now staring out the window, his voice cracking as he was holding back tears and he said, “Colorado, huh? I nearly married a girl from Colorado once…..sometimes I wish I did…”
Whoa…I could feel this man’s pain and suffering and his regret that he had been living with for so many years. It absolutely ROCKED me.
From that exact moment in my life, I committed to myself to NEVER regret anything in my life. I promised myself to live a life of passion and happiness and to take advantage of the opportunities that life presents me, so at the end of my life, when the music stops playing, the last expression on my face will be a smile of gratitude rather than a frown of regret.
Chose To Live My Dream Life NOW
It was shortly after returning back to California, that I quit my job, and at the age of 27, took massive action. I took out an ad in some local papers saying “Sailboat captain available for hire.”
I went on to sail across the Pacific, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the South Pacific, the Philippine Sea, and visit places like, Guam, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Gibraltar, Mallorca, Italy, Africa, Portugal, Hawaii, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Midway Atoll.
My point to sharing all this is simply to start to LIVE now, don’t wait. There is opportunity all around you, you just have to know where to look.
Was I frightened? Heck yeah, I was frightened. Leaving my huge paychecks behind to float in the middle of weird oceans with small more than just my guitar and a GPS.
A Desire For More
And as incredible as my life was at that time, I knew I craved more. I craved something deeper, than just cruising through life with my guitar and a sailboat like Jimmy Buffett.
As I would arrive in every port (mind you this was some time ago), I would drag my 20 pound laptop to the nearest phone line and connect to the Internet to tell friends and family that I am ok and fill them in on the latest drama at sea.
A New Dream Is Born
They all LOVED to hear from me, loved my tales of the deep blue and passed on my emails to hundreds upon hundreds of other friends. Before I knew it, I was getting emails from strangers, rooting me on, telling me that I inspired them to live their dreams and to take action in their lives. It was an incredible realization for me, to be able to place something out on the Internet and have hundreds of strangers follow my every go.
Thus started my life online…and the ability and awareness that I can make a difference to so many other people.
