What? That Time Of Year Again!

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Remember, that this is only a short segment of each year and much of it is “driven” by media advertising hype or our wanting to keep up “appearances”. Keep it in perspective.

Mentally sketch a clear portrait of what a “great” festive season would look like for you. Once you are crystal clear about what you want, then start planning plus, practice in a mirror saying “no” to the suggestions/invitations from others that do not fit your picture!

Discard the preconceived ideas of what this time of year “should” be like. This year, start taking actions that you can expand on each following year, to gradually begin totally redesigning the lead-up and follow-up months to suit you and your family.

Recognise that everyone around you is likely feeling the same and they may actually be relieved at a suggestion from you that gives something the K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) treatment.

Give yourself permission to feel the way that you do and to make the choices that you need. Generosity of spirit comes easily if you are not afraid to treat yourself well. When giving yourself what you need you’ll be in a better position to give generously and from the heart, to others. This festivity is not about providing the kind of giving that is done through gritted teeth and has ‘duty’ written all over it.

Set up a plan of action for keeping in touch with friends and doing nice things for friends/family throughout the year. This will alleviate that “guilt surge” in this period and feeling that you “must” contact everyone who you have neglected the past eleven months.

A no cost gift idea that’s aligned with the spirit of the season, is asking friends/family (well before the festive period) what is their favorite voluntary community organisation. Then, in your gift to your friends include a note from the organisation (using their letterhead) telling your friend that you have given a gift of donating a certain number of hours of your time to that group.

This one needs to be started a few months before the gift-giving season and to guide you, it could even be based on your current hourly rate of pay. For example, if you earn $30 p.h. and you would usually give the friend a $45 gift if you’d bought it at a store, then donate 90 minutes to that community project.

Start planning and take actions for next year’s season, now. Especially if any undesired circumstances that you experience currently are the same ones that were around this time twelve months ago…and each of the years before that one!

How To Increase Your Profits By Decreasing Your Work Time

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

More and more online marketers have started to offer coaching. Sometimes for ridiculously high prices like $30,000 per month. Others are charging way below reasonable figures, like $10 per month. I’ve had numerous people ask me what the difference is between the two and how one can charge that much. Some thing the difference is only because the one marketer has a better reputation and brand.

I concur. While not really having a brand online and not being the Go-To person yet – I do charge premium prices for my services. All the while I decreased the time I spend on my coaching business from 40 hours a week to 10 hours, and got a lot more testimonials, high-ticket customers and generally a happy state of mind. (And don’t forget the raise in profit with over 300%)

How did I do this?

When I was just starting out in the coaching business and just obtained my official coaching certificate, I ran a special offer for 6 months of coaching at $197. That’s about $32 per month, or rather $8.20 per hour. Since the end of 2007 is near, all these people who took me up on this offer will be gone. Some of them will stay with me thru my newsletters or the re-vamped coaching program. Last week I went thru the list of clients and noticed that 70% will be gone next month. That means 70% more time. Plus the remaining clients and some new one’s now happily pay me up to $397/month for coaching. That’s $99.25 an hour. Much better!

So here’s how you can earn more while doing less: Limit access to yourself.

Never sell coaching or your personal time below the price you want. Further don’t respond to emails personally anymore, have an assistant do this for you. Those that can’t afford an assistant can setup a new email address and use that one, creating the illusion of an assistant.

Last but not least, stop being to much in ‘public’ like forums, chats, Skype etc.

People will slowly start to notice that you’re not available a lot, which increases the perceived value of your time. You can now easily charge 200-300% more.

Productivity Coaching – Best Time Assets Of 2008

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

In a previous article I discussed Time Liabilities and how they can consume time unnecessarily. At the end of the article, I suggested my readers replace Time Liabilities with Time Assets. Some of you may still be looking for that perfect gift to give friends and loved ones. Consider giving them a Time Asset to help make their work more enjoyable or productive.

Here are some of the best Time Assets I am currently using and have used through the last year. These items have helped me gain more time and focus more time on my most profitable activities:

*Logitech VX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse – This was given as a gift to me by a client a couple of years ago. Since then, I have bought a second VX: one for my desk and one for my briefcase. The performance laser does not require a mouse pad which allows me to use it in any situation, such sitting on a couch or even in my car. It sits perfectly to the contour of my hand. Time savings: faster use of computer both at desk and away from desk.

* Sennheiser PX100 Headphones – These inexpensive headphones have some of the best reviews on the market and are an incredibly good value for the price. They provide excellent sound clarity. My PX100′s fold up quickly and neatly in my briefcase which makes them perfect for traveling. Time savings: ability to quickly and privately listen to audio anywhere.

* Logitech Cordless Wave Keyboard – Not only is this keyboard extremely comfortable due to an innovative, ergonomic design, it is also extremely quiet. It has a smart array of quick buttons to programs any actions that I use often. The design is also intelligent for daily use; for instance, it has an extra-large Delete key and places the Insert button away from where my hands will bump it. (While this keyboard comes with a mouse, I stick with my VX mouse, instead.) Time savings: faster typing and reduced hand and wrist strain.

*theBoom “O” Headset – Simply put, this is the best noise-canceling headset on the market. I ran several thorough tests with this headset and found it cuts out absolutely all outside noise, from chatter, to wind, to huge dump trucks rolling by. I use this headset in many situations, from recording audio on my computer to talking on my cell phone. (Be sure to buy adapters that work for your particular phone or computer.) Time savings: reduced call times and more efficient calls due to sound clarity.

*LG 24-in. Widescreen Monitor – My laptop is my primary computer and I dock it and work every day on this monitor. The colors are crisp and clear from every single angle. It provides a lot of real estate for handling multiple windows. Someday I may get two of these monitors, but at the moment I see no need. Twenty-four inches provides so much space that having this LG is almost like having two vertical monitors. Time savings: reduced eyestrain, more screen real-estate and an overall more comfortable workday.

How 5 Simple Steps Will Grow Your Events & Functions Bigger And Better Each Time.

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

The key to successfully growing bigger and better events is to set up what’s called the Marketing Cycle. The first part of the cycle is to promote your event in whatever way you can, such as traditional advertising. The next step is critical. You must collect names and addresses & email addresses when people book. At this point you should confirm their booking, but importantly from your point of view, use it to ask them to tell others.

As the event draws closer, in order to create anticipation of the event you contact people prior to the event who have already booked to remind them of the event and again ask them to tell others. This next step is again critical. After the event you actively seek feedback. This must seek constructive feedback to help improve your events. You need to know what people are thinking, and pick on the issues you can improve on. The feedback must also seek to collect positive comments.

You now have completed one cycle. Marketing the next event (marketing cycle) gets easier. You use the database of contacts you already built up to direct market to these “qualified” people. Most importantly, in your promotional communication you tell them (from your feedback) what has changed (to make it a better event), and you include the positive comments (testimonials) from people. You then continue through the remainder of the cycle.

As you can appreciate, for each subsequent event (marketing cycle) the information you generate gets more fine tuned to what people want so you can deliver events they will be more motivated to attend.

An online booking (& payment) service provides an excellent way to manage the Marketing Cycle as it will collect email and postal addresses (and payments), automatically provide confirmation emails and send reminder emails (plus use it to ask them to tell others). The most critical part is it will collect feedback after the event. This is the marketing gold of your Marketing Cycle!

For the next event you simply use your database to direct mail. Plus you also now have another valuable weapon as part of the Marketing Cycle. Most people will only respond to a promotional after several communications. You can now very easily use your on line booking system to send subsequent follow up promotions to only those on your database who have not yet registered.

The marketing cycle is how www.mybookingmanager.com, an on line booking & payment system operates. The big benefit apart from creating a valuable Marketing Cycle is all the bookings, payments, confirmations, reminders and feedback functions ar all automated leaving you time to promote bigger and better events and shows.
