MLM’s that deliver on a very important dream

Friday, October 8th, 2010

MLM’s sell two dreams, the one you usually see in their brochures of happy couples on the beach, in fancy boats, in front of massive houses or about to fly off into the blue yonder and the less publicized one of an ongoing income. Of the two, the second unglamorous one is by far the more important.

One must always plan for the future at any age. It is very important.

When you are young, the most common important things are; you want to be successful in your chosen profession so you must study hard and make a good living; you want to marry the right person and have a happy family life; you want to have a good social life; you want to travel and experience the world.

What else is important?

Each one has their own dreams and plans but there is one more thing that is very important for peace of mind and to retain the happiness in your family– You have to guard against unexpected problems. One of the ways this is done is to use insurance. For example, your car is insured against accidents and at least third party liabilities. However, there are things that you cannot insure against or at least most people don’t. There are many other situations where you cold end up in problems either due to some unexpected event, natural disasters or some personal tragedy.

For that you need to build up your assets or develop an independent source of income.

You can do this by savings which are invested and generate income. However, it does take time and a lot of sacrifice

So what happens if you have a financial crisis in the meantime? You could lose your job, make a bad decision; there could be financial problems in the country or other major problems caused by natural disasters, currency speculation and political problems or due to other human causes. One thing you can be sure of there will be several such crisis in your life.

Therefore it is very important to have a source of income independent of your job. It is infect vital if you do not want to land up in major problems at sometime or other.

This is why so many people join MLM’s because they promise the glamorous life and “ongoing income”- the best type of income. This is despite the fact that a very small percentage of participants in each MLM do make money and most lose money and friends too.

So if ongoing income is the most desirable form of income how are you going to achieve that?

One way is to have enough money so that you can at worst put it in the bank and get interest or do something better with it like buy a property and rent it or buy shares. But how do you get the money in the first place?

Another way may be to join an MLM or an affiliate program.

Problem is there are major pitfalls in both and most participants do not benefit and infect lose large sums of money, more so in MLM’s.

There are some things to watch out for when joining MLM’s. Here are some general suggestions:

* Seek out MLM companies that have a wide range of products that everyone needs. The more products they have the better. Stay away from companies that have a “special niche” product even if it is the “best in the world”.
* There are many near pyramid type of MLM. They grow fast and fold up fast. You can tell which companies these are because you get paid for recruiting members. So stay away from companies that pay you for recruiting members
* Some MLM’s sell their products at very high prices and claim that the products are unique and not available on the general market, are superior or more concentrated or some other similar spin. My advice is to stay away from companies that have high priced products at the retail level, meaning the final consumer level.
* Some MLM’s do not have good products or services and they overcome this by a lot of hype. In my opinion the hype is in inverse proportion to the quality and value of their goods or service. So stay away from companies that have too much of hype – they probably have something to hide.
* Most MLMers lose money because they have to buy minimum quantities they cannot sell and these pile up in their home. They then push these goods too hard on to their friends and associates who start to stay away from them. So stay away from companies that require you to buy minimum quantities every month to qualify for something or other.
* Another large drain on the resources is promotional material. Many MLM companies make their main money on selling these materials. Stay away from companies that sell you their promotional materials and inspirational tapes at anything above what it would cost them.
* If you are to sell anything, it must be something people want. It is very difficult to build a market for a new product that is “the best in the world” if it is not what people want. Stay away from companies that do not sell anything you would not normally buy or use.

Email me if you want recommendations of companies that provide for the dream without the negatives.

Finding a Career: How to Determine Your Dream Career

Monday, September 6th, 2010

One of the reasons why many people are unhappy is because they are unsuccessful in finding a career that really suits them. Passion, after all, is a word that does not only pertain to love and relationships, but also pertains to the career planning process. A career that does not bring out your passion for it, after all, is definitely not your dream career.

No matter what course you’ve graduated from, or what work experience you’ve had, it is never too late to get career advice and also start a career that matches your interests, skills, etc., perfectly. For the so called career planning process to be considered successful, you have to end up with a job that you enjoy despite challenges and criticisms. For a certain career to be termed as your dream career, it should also inspire you to exhibit better performance and urge you to work harder.

Here are a few tips on finding a career that you would want to stick to until you’ve reached your retirement age:

1. Think about the skills you have.

First and foremost, you have to enumerate the skills and talents you have. What are the skills that really feel natural to you? Do you consider yourself a techie person? Do you love writing? Are you good at convincing people to try or buy products? You have to reflect about the things you’re good at and the things you think you are poor at, and consider the during the career planning process.

2. Reflect on activities that you love doing.

When you get career advice, more often than not, a career expert will ask you about your hobbies, favorite activities, and the likes. Believe it or not, most of the time, finding a career you are passionate about is usually related to your favorite activities.

For example, if you get fulfillment from selling stuff online, whether brand new or second hand, you may also get fulfillment from having a career that requires you to sell e.g. being a real estate agent, being an Internet marketer, and so on.

3. Remember which subjects in school gave you enjoyment.

Another tip on how you can find out what your dream career really is: ask yourself what your favorite classes were when you were still in school. Take note that those subjects need not be ones that produced high grades for you — instead, those subjects should be those that you remember eagerly attending because you love what is being taught, you love the information given to you, etc.

For instance, if you love your ‘Labor Laws’ class, finding a career that is related to that subject such as being a legal assistant, being a lawyer, and so on, may actually suit you best.

4. Mull over on which things, places, people, and so on, give you energy.

Whenever you get career advice, you will probably be asked about which stuff actually make you feel more energetic. For example, if you used to be an athlete during high school or college, then, you may answer that a certain sport makes you feel energized.

Getting a hold of this information will actually help in the career planning process. The proof: if you discover that sports really make you energetic, then, you may want to think about applying as a Physical Education teacher or as a sports coach. Of course, you still have to see to it that you have the credentials before you get your hopes up.

Finding a career that you can call your dream career is actually dependent on self discovery. You have to first know yourself and be able to pinpoint which activities and tasks you’re good at, and which responsibilities you love doing. If you need help in deciding which career is right for you, Richard Calkin’s and Tania Dally’s e-book: Authentic Direction: How To Find Your Life’s Purpose And Ideal Career is your top resource. Not only will the said book make you realize the right career path, it will also reveal to you what your purpose in life actually is.

From Chapter 2

“Dare to Dream, Dream to Dare”

Imagination is your power to go beyond the known and the unknown to create your utopia. Artist Paul Gauguin stated, “I shut my eyes in order to see.” It’s lamentable that our focus is always on what exists rather than on what could exist. To that we say, become an imagineer! Pay attention to your imagination, intuition, insight, and inspiration, the flashes that come from out of whatever divine blue, for this is the stuff that dreams are made of. Be alert and sensitive to the finite notes that strike a chord and rock you. Listen to it. Grab hold of it. Shake it and see what falls out.

Then, and this is paramount, quickly write it down before it shifts, alters, and goes thud, never to return. Francis Bacon advocated, “A man would do well to carry a pencil in his pocket, and write down the thoughts of the moment.” Splendid advice, since the spark of one idea gives birth to another, which in turn creates another idea that can support, enhance, and empower actions that help materialize the idea into a reality. That’s the magic of awareness. Ideas have a wonderful symmetry. You embrace an idea because you need an idea and because it needs you. With this very much in mind, keep a notebook handy at all times. Or a legal pad. Or a day planner. Or 3×5 cards. A microcassette, digital recorder, or text messager. If you have a handheld computer, good for you. I have one but found that the lunatic thing works me more than I can work it. Not important. What is important is that you provide a space for ideas to land when they come around circling.

Because an idea is a thing with feathers.

They can fly away as easily as they come, never to revisit you again. What enlivens and excites can be momentary and ephemeral, if it is not acted upon. Take this on faith, when God in all Her wisdom decides to provide you with creative unfoldment, do not let it get away. Get it down. Record it before it leaves you.

Aside: Rolling Stone and crypt kicker, rock god Keith Richards wrote the forever famous guitar riff for “Satisfaction” after waking up in the middle of the night in a hotel room. When he crawled out of bed the next afternoon, he had forgotten he’d written a song until he played his cassette recorder later that day and heard himself muttering the now rock-classic tune. End of aside.

Be a thinker-upper/writer-downer.

The point to be polished here is that even if you have an elephant’s memory, by writing down your idea, and this is crucial, you create its existence in tangible form. You can see it, feel its charge of energy, and go back to it again later to review and consider if it still excites and fills you with positive feelings and purpose, because, in time, some ideas stiffen, while some remain such wonders the next time and the time after the next time.

Keep an idea log. Maybe it’s a journal or whatever name you honor it with, do not deprive yourself of this vital instrument of manifestation. An idea log is a powerful tool to assist you in building the foundation and framework for empowering your dream. And if this seems like some off-the-wall suggestion, know that museums, universities, and private collections the world over, house the imaginative jottings of Archimedes, Michelangelo, da Vinci, Copernicus, Picasso, the Wright brothers, and Einstein, just to name hardly any. Truth to know is that there exists a lengthy written trail of providential bursts, cultivated revelations penned by the hand of their creative greats. Tangible reminders of ideas recorded to ensure that they didn’t get lost in the tumult of daily events. No wonder that since 1978, the Smithsonian and Rutgers University have been hard at work archiving the over 5 million pages of ideas, notes, and other papers that Thomas Edison left behind. Fortunately for our hyper-inattentive world, Edison knew that a sharp mind deserves a sharp pencil.

So when you luck into an idea, write it down. That’s the best basic advice for empowering your dream. Keeping an idea log is, at once, a very important way of knotting together action and reaction. A process for allowing connectives to click, which can bring into form ideas that can create energy, thoughts that can lead to actions, dreams that can turn into living realities. An idea log is, in sweet reality, a portfolio of possibilities. When geeky Billy Gates began to visualize the software that would change the daily revolving of the world, he made his mark, pressing pencil to paper, recording his bright efforts, delivering destiny. William Wordsworth said, “Fill your paper with the beating of your heart.” Giving your idea a palpable presence is the very first step in looking at what wants to be looked at, transforming it from a flash of mental energy into a charge of physical energy. You will find it amazing, fascinating, reassuring, and absolutely faith-building when you begin to document and keep track of how many good ideas you have. Imagine the unimagined, ideas come from a new way of thinking.

And believing.
